15. SIZZLER ('put down that knife'):

'I wouldn't cut off your arm if it was the last arm on Earth' - I'd heard a lot of things in my day but couldn't figure that one out and I was at least hoping that guy was a doctor or good with a knife or something - trouble was he was holding a hatchet and had just punched the metal sign on the train platform by the little stairway and it had made a resounding racket and the two were yelling at each other he and his girlfriend I guess had been arguing and had nearly come to blows and as I watched he grabbed her frontally around the neck and shoulders and heaved her down the stairs with a shove and she - moving swiftly and staying on her feet - managed somehow to land OK and just stood there as if in a corner at school being punished : her face was white and she simply stared ahead at the wall in front (a light green poorly painted wooden wall with graffiti saying something like 'Wisepak '09 - Durango!' in back and red and I wondered just what she made of that) and this creepy guy her boyfriend or whatever he kept peering around the corner like a stupid schoolkid or something stealing a peek to be sure she was still in place and there I wondered what would he do for God's sake if she had moved - and then as I watched he sat on a bench stretched out his legs and seemed to just drop his head and fall to a moment's sleep - but before soon again he'd gotten up to peek around the corner and still she HAD NOT MOVED as frozen in place followed his orders like some rapid gospel-truth sent express mail from Peter himself and I said to myself at the point 'what's the difference anyway between a whale and a camel ? neither could pass through the needle's eye but neither would want to either' - I found myself at the weirdest times making really bad doggerel on a moment's notice : oh well I figured to them they should have a nice life make up and kiss have a few kids get over this strife - and whatever you do put DOWN that knife.
